Michael Kent Becomes The New Irvine PD Chief

The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has found its new Chief in Michael Kent. He is not new to Irvine city’s law enforcement scene. An Irvine inhabitant, and a local law enforcement member since 2002, Kent is the city’s first chief who has entered the law enforcement exploring program. Orange County’s Law Enforcement Explorer program is for teenagers aged between 14 and 18 years and offers the chance to work with law officers. It includes not just training but also comprehensive access to police work in a real-world scenario.

Kent became a part of the program in 1993 as he was going to Irvine’s Woodbridge High School. Welcoming Kent as its Chief on Twitter, the Irvine Police Department offered some insights into his law enforcement career that spans almost 20 years.

In a recent press release, Kent stated that he is expecting to interact with the local community down the road. He considers it an honor to be Irvine’s new Police Department Chief. Kent also stated that he is grateful to the following people.

  • To the women and men in the law enforcement organization who are committed to keeping Irvine’s community safe
  • The leaders of Irvine who consistently prioritize public safety
  • The businesses and residents of the local community that are dedicated to working with law enforcement to safeguard Irvine

Kent came into the Irvine Police Department after Mike Hamel stepped down as its Chief. For your information, Hamel served as the Chief of Police at the Department for 27 years.

Kent promised that he would work to achieve the following goals as an Irvine City resident.

  • Serve other residents by keeping the public safety level high, as the community expects
  • Cement Irvine’s position of being among the best locations to play, work and live

Kent also expects opportunities for the organization to connect and engage with the diverse community.
