Hyundai Chooses Irvine For Its Flying Taxi Innovation

As for human beings, the idea of a flying taxi that glides on an airborne road has been a bit too futuristic. However, it may be a reality sooner rather than later, as Irvine’s Mayor Farrah N. Khan discussed flying taxis in reference to future innovations. Khan was delivering her so-called State of the City Speech. Khan said that we have not begun to talk about flying taxis but are having that discussion now as part of preparations for the future.

While the future may be unpredictable, Hyundai Motors is seeking to deliver this piece of innovation to the public in six years. The automobile manufacturer is testing flying taxis in Irvine city.

Launched in 2021, Hyundai’s Supernal is officially called an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. It is scheduled to be an advanced form of air mobility in the future.

Hyundai Motors is developing the piece of technology in the City of Irvine right now. It uses a technology location around the Irvine Spectrum for the purpose. The online site of Supernal lists SoCal as the location where the manufacturer will do not only automobile development simulations but also flight testing. The engineering team of Hyundai has developed over 36 aircraft and aerial vehicles as well as has over 58 patents.

Hyundai Motors expects that Supernal will transport around five passengers per trip, as per a recent Orange County Business Journal report.

Hyundai has offices in Washington DC, Irvine, and Northern California. The company has been looking to develop legislation through its associations with policymakers.

More cities are spending for the future than ever before. On March 01, 2022, Miami and Supernal signed an MOU that will offer the former the authority to make a framework surrounding advanced air mobility (AAM) in the skies around Miami.
