After a year-long stoppage, the Great Park’s main attraction has opened for flights again. On May 06, 2021, the so-called Great Park Balloon opened again as a public attraction, and resumed its flights with established modifications.

Through a recent post on social media, the park shared further details regarding what it means for people who cannot wait to go aboard. It will welcome riders in the order in which they arrive. According to California’s guidelines, only six riders can be allowed for each flight.

In accordance with Irvine’s safety commitment, the attraction is open for levitating rides with established safety measures, the park said in its Facebook post. It also said that rides would happen only if the weather at the time is good enough to make it possible. Check with the Great Park’s Visitors Center if you wish to take part in a flight.

The balloon provides panoramic Orange County views from a height of over 400 feet. It can span a maximum of about 64 kilometers in any way on a day with clear weather.

With the Great Park’s parts reopening with modifications, there will also be some changes in place for balloon riders. Besides safety and health changes, the park announced additions to the attraction itself, which include a covering filled with much helium.

Every balloon rider has to put their signature in a park registration waiver at the Visitors Center for their boarding pass. They must maintain a six-feet distance, plus use face masks. This park also requires parental signatures for riders aged below 18 years, as well as an accompanying adult for every rider aged below 13 years.

The helium balloon soars high above the City of Irvine from Thursdays to Sundays. At the same time, there is renovation work for the carousel, and it is likely to reopen this fall.
